Welcome to Year 3!
Autumn 1
How do authors and illustrators collaborate to bring stories to life?
In this Topic, we will be reading a variety of books written by
iconic authors and brought to life by incredible illustrators. We
will be studying how this collaboration brings stories to life.
We will be developing our creative writing skills by using these
books as model examples alongside studying the distinctive styles
of each illustrator. Our topic will culminate in celebrating Roald
Dahl’s birthday with a gloriumptious Day and creating our own characters and illustrations.
The Year 3 Team
In Year 3, we have a fabulous teaching team made up of:

We also have our fantastic teaching assistants, Ms Y Sanderson, Ms M Hamidouch & Ms K Chivers who support learning across both Year 3 classes.
Y3 Daily Essentials
In Year 3, we encourage children to stay hydrated throughout the day. Ple
ase therefore ensure that your child attends school each day with a named waterbottle.
As keen readers, we try to read as much as possible in school and encourage parents/carers to read regularly with their children at home. Children each have an allocated reading book of an appropriate level as well as a reading record. These need to be in school each day and we ask that you record the reading you have been doing at home with your child in their reading record at least once a week. Children may also record their own independent reading in their reading record.
Our PE days:
In Year 3, our PE days are on Tuesdays (Outdoor) and Thursdays (Indoor). On both of these days, PE is in the afternoon, meaning that children will need to bring a PE kit in to school to change in to on both days. They will then go home in their PE kit and need to bring it back in for the following PE day.
At Morley, we require children to wear navy shorts and a white T-shirt for their PE kit. If the weather is cooler, navy jogging trousers and a navy sweatshirt may be worn. They should either come into school wearing trainers or plimsolls or bring these in to change in to. All jewellery must be removed and earrings removed or taped over. If your child has earrings which cannot be taken out, they MUST come to school with tape.
If your child does not have a PE kit or have inappropriate jewellery, they cannot partake in PE. Please contact Mrs Derrett or Ms Farrel via the school office if you are having difficulties finding a PE kit.
Reading:
We have an amazing library filled with a variety of books to enthuse all children’s interests. Children have the opportunity to take book out of the library, but we ask that, once they have finished the book, they return it before taking home another.
Home Learning:
In Year 3, Home Learning is set on Google Classroom on Fridays and due by Friday of the following week. This home learning will always include Reading, Spelling and Maths Fluency tasks as well as alternating Maths, English or Topic activities.
