Chair of Governors (voluntary)

Our governing body has been ably led by the current chair for the past 6 years. We are now looking for a new Chair who shares our vision for high quality, creative education to take on the leadership of this talented and committed team of governors and play a crucial role in the strategic development of the school. This is a voluntary position with a commitment of circa (or up to) 20 days per annum. Appointments are made by the Board of Governors for an initial four year term.

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to the board of governors and ensure that governors fulfil their functions for the proper governance of the school and that statutory requirements and regulations are met.
  • Ensure that the board of governors sets a clear vision, strategy, and ethos for the school.
  • Lead the board of governors in monitoring the headteacher’s implementation of the school strategy and priorities for improvement.
  • Ensure oversight of the financial performance of the school and effective use of the schools resources.
  • Support the headteacher, including acting as a sounding board and providing feedback.
  • Ensure that the board of governors has the required skills, and that all governors receive appropriate induction and ongoing training.
  • Ensure that the board of governors has the information it needs to discharge its responsibilities, including appropriate mechanisms for listening to the views of parents, pupils, and staff.
  • Work with the headteacher and clerk to plan and organise meetings of the board of governors.
  • Chair meetings of the board of governors effectively, ensuring that governance is efficient and effective
  • Where required, represent the board of governors in its dealings with external partners and be an advocate for the school.
  • Ensure that complaints made to the board of governors are dealt with in a timely and effective manner.

Skills and personal attributes

  • Experience of chairing a board of governors or equivalent experience chairing a board or committee in a non-executive capacity.
  • An understanding of the primary education system and the role of governors within it.
  • A commitment to the values and ethos of Morley Memorial.
  • Highly organised.
  • An effective communicator

Deputy Office Manager with responsibility for HR

We are looking for a Deputy Office Manager with responsibility for HR to join our office staff.The salary range is Level 2 Scale 4 point 18-21 (£18,870 – £20,540 FTE, to be pro rated for term time working) and the hours of work are 37 hours per week during term time only, starting at 8.30am each day Monday -Friday (plus approx. 3 days during the school holidays by agreement.)

We are a happy, friendly school with a supportive staff team. Our aspirations for the children will be achieved by providing the teaching staff with excellent office support. Our ideal candidate will be able to adapt to all aspects of working in a busy school office, show initiative and take the lead in providing a friendly welcome to all visitors, parents and pupils. Strong IT skills and the willingness and ability to develop those skills in a school environment would be a significant advantage.

Morley Memorial Primary School have Playwork vacancies for November 2018, and we’re looking for new members to join our team of staff to provide a play-based childcare provision for children in Breakfast, After-School Club and Holiday Clubs (Spectrum). Spectrum is a fun and busy club, where the children feel at home in a welcoming and stimulating environment. Breakfast Club provision runs from 0730-0845 and After-School Club from 1500-1800 Monday to Friday during term-time. Optional Casual Hours are available between 0800-1800 in school holidays and teacher training days.

We currently have vacancies for afternoon hours however there is scope for additional hours at breakfast club, during school lunchtimes and holidays. Hours are open to negotiation but letters of application should indicate availability.
Applicants should be enthusiastic, patient, conscientious and aware of their duty of care to the children in the setting. Flexibility and teamwork skills are obviously crucial, as is a sense of ebullience and the desire to play. Successful applicants will be expected to adhere to all policies and procedures of the setting and undertake appropriate training to compliment any existing qualifications and experience.
